After his academic studies of architecture at the University of Kaiserslautern. Thomas Isselhard started in Verden in 1995, establishing the Ecological Centre of Verden. In 1996 he also started his architecture office, which is specialised in ecological and sustainable construction of buildings.
Since 2008 he has been working as an architect in the NNB. Form December 2008 to June 2011 he was managing the departments of research, development and qualification of the NNB. Moreover, he was responsible for the project aimed at developing the NNB. After assuring the financial funding for the NNB he has focused on his work as an architect and is supporting the NNB as the first chairman.
His main work tasks and research subjects are:
- Projects with the focus on energy-efficient and environmentally friendly restauration of old buildings
- Projects with the focus on Passive Buildings (residential and public buildings)
- Projects with the focus on bales of straw-construction (the NNB is currently implementing a project dealing with first-time-realisation of straw-insulated multi-storey buildings)
- Activities in Federal Networks in Germany (e.g. Arbeitskreis ökologischer Holzbau (AKÖH), Fachverband Strohballenbau (FASBA)), thereby having excellent connections to the main actors and leading producers in the sector of sustainable construction
Since 2008 Thomas Isselhard has been working in different research and development projects in the area of passive houses and bales of straw-constructions. Moreover, he has been working in the further vocational training sector for several years.
